Duet by Elite is an army game that is a mix of
Gauntlet and Commando. The sprites and backgrounds are
very similar to Commando, but the game play is very much
like Gauntlet. You have to collect items, shoot enemies
that regenerate from nests and find the exit to the next
level. The graphics are quite simple and the game play
isn't very original. I found playing it very repetitive
and annoying at times. I prefer both Gauntlet and
Commando to this. A nice idea to combine two games, but
it doesn't really work that well in my opinion. Gauntlet
fans may get something out of it though.

The End.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
I used an infinite lives cheat.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?:
If you complete the game correctly and collect the right
items, you get to see a short ending message. The words
'ALL DOCUMENTS FOUND... MISSION COMPLETE' are
displayed at the bottom of the screen. The game then
resets.
COMMENTS:
- Neil: Another
terrible ending. It's not worth the aggro. 1/10.
- Vinny:
I didn't even expect any ending text - so that's a
bonus! The game is cack and the ending is cack too. Nuff
said.
- Brendan Phoenix:
That really is dog turd.
I remember Duet first being on an Elite compilation - I
think it was Hit Pak 1 or something and it had a '
includes FREE game ' blurb on the front!
- Andy Vaisey:
Terrible game with a god awful ending. Excuse me while I
go and vomit.
- Kungfufurby:
New mission for Elite: Make better game endings! This
one fails.
- Guerilla:
I can still remember quite clear: 'Commando' was a great
game, and when 'Commando 86' with 2 player simultaneous
mode was announced, I nearly shit my pants! But then the
waiting began. Every monthly issue of my favourite
computer mag featured a full-page ad for Commando 86
(featuring a drawing of two players in front of an
arcade cabinet), but the game was still not released. It
seemed to take forever, and then it wasn't mentioned
anymore. Then Elite released some kind of compilation,
most of the games featured I already had. But I
instantly recognized the cover of 'Duet' as the same
picture that the ad for 'Commando 86' had. I was only
maybe 12 years old, but could tell that the game must
have sucked so badly that they were embarrassed to give
it a full-fledged release and threw it into a
compilation instead. Disappointed, I didn't buy the
compilation. A year later or so, I copied 'Duet' from a
friend instead...boy, did it suck: sloppy animated
sprites, sound effects that reminded me of the Basic
sound demos...Played it, though, in hopes of a good
ending, but never finished it.
Now I can close the file of 'Commando 86' for good -
thanks a lot!
FINAL SAY:
What a huge waste of time...
