I’m not a fan of war games, but Desert Fox wasn’t a bad one back in the 80’s. The arcade sections are fun, but the strategy parts are very boring ('hear-hear' - Vinny) with little variety. Today, I kicked Rommel’s ass and saved the world from the Nazi’s… or something like that...

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I loaded it up and played it for a few hours, using a lot of saved games. I captured all the bases on Grandmaster level and had a maximum score of 999999.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once all the bases are saved from the Nazi threat, the union jack pops up for the last time and the word "VICTORY!" is displayed. You are then shown a tank flying a white flag of surrender. The game then ends.

COMMENTS:

  • Neil: Not bad. I’m pretty sure this is the ending on all levels within the game. 4/10.

  • Vinny: Now this game takes me back a few years... I remember having a cracked version that my school mate supplied to me. I eventually got hold of an original via my Cousin who was in to strategy games. Unfortunately, the strategy part of the game bored me to death, but the arcade sections were fun.

    I know it was only 1985, but that's no excuse for this bland ending. It kind of drags along without any pace and just seems to slump itself down into an excuse for an ending. I do like the waving flag, but that's only a small sprite animation, and as for the music... erm, the less said about that the better. I'm going for 3/10.

  • Andrew Fisher: It's quite clever, re-using the 3D tank graphics for the ending animation, but it doesn't do a lot really...

  • Brendan Phoenix: The speech blew me away at the time. Was hoping for a better quality ending than what we have hear - pity they couldn't squeeze a ' Victory ' sample in there.

  • Andy Vaisey: Frugal but boring.

FINAL SAY: Nothing special.
