> DAN DARE 2: Mekon's Revenge by Virgin Games

Completed and Reviewed by Vinny Mainolfi

I was always a Dan Dare comic fan and still possess a few copies up in the loft (attic). Saying that, I was never a fan of the games and didn't really get into them when they first appeared on the scene. Since then, I have played both games and enjoyed them - be it with the cheat active (",).

So what does the second Dan Dare outing have on offer as a game ending ...

Flippin ek! What's going on here! I've just completed the game!

Ah! Cool :)

Off he goes ...

... into the far corners of the galaxy.

And there you have it.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: You know me; I am the biggest cheat of them all. I used a cracked version of the game which offered me the option of viewing the game ending straight away!

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Well, one you have completed the final task, the screen goes all fuzzy (see first screen shot) and then cuts into a screen saying, "DAN ESCAPES. HIS MISSION A SUCCESS".

The screen then shows Dan's ship in the foreground whizzing across the screen from left to right. It then comes back onto the screen in the background and whizzes back from right to left.

Finally, the scoring screen appears and it is obviously THE END.

COMMENTS: I was quite surprised to see animation in this ending and only really expected a screen full of text. The only real thing lacking, and why this game gets such a low mark, is any kind of game ending music - or even sound effects!

FINAL SAY: Give it a go (",)
