In this cool 1986 release from Durell, you control a rocket-propelled hover type vehicle through a series of eight attack phases (levels to you and me) where your mission is to infiltrate the enemy position and disable the anti-matter plant before the aliens achieve CRITICAL MASS. It's a smooth eight-way scroller with great sprite animation, but unfortunately let down by its difficult control mechanics and sparse game content. ZZAP!64 magazine only scored it 59% due to its lack of game content, which is definitely its biggest failing. But saying that - it's still fun to play and deserves a look or two... or even three!

Once Level 8 is completed...

Here we go...

Come on then - let's have it!

Thank gawd for that!

And there you have it...

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I'm not quite sure which trained version I used, but I definitely used one that allowed me to skip levels using the Commodore Key :)

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you have completed level 8, a message comes in from Mission Control, which reads: "OBJECTIVE ACHIEVED. WITH GREAT SKILL AND DARING THE VEHICLE PILOT HAS DESTROYED THE ANTI MATTER CONVERTER AND DEFEATED THE ALIENS. RECOMMENDED FOR PROMOTION. MESSAGE ENDS."

COMMENTS:

  • Vinny: Hmmm... I really expected something a little more exciting like an ending animation with the main sprite reaching mission control or something similar. This is a really let down. 1.5/10 from me :(

FINAL SAY: 'Critical crass' more like! :(

G.E. RATING: 1.5 / 10
