> THE COMET GAME by Firebird

• Completed & Reviewed by Neil Collins

Here's a bizarre game: The Comet game by Firebird. It's another title that I'd never come across, so I decided to give it a shot. Having failed to work out what the hell I was doing in the game, I stopped playing it and then returned a few months later - this time determined to work it out and managed to beat it.

The game is split into a few weird sub-games that have to be beaten approximately twenty times. They are randomly chosen and increase in difficulty. The sub-games are; a missile command game where you have to protect your spaceship; a radar game where you have to find the correct frequency; a puzzle game where you have to fix the computer LED's; a shoot-em-up where you blast bouncing balls; and a coffee game where you have to make mix the right drinks for the astronauts - all a bit weird if you ask me! If you beat all of the sub-games enough times you finally get to blast the enemy spores on the comet itself. If you beat that then the game is complete.

The game isn't particularly good as all the sub-games are short and very simple; some are really easy, but some are very difficult. It's unlikely you will reach the very difficult final level so it's not really a game that I'd recommend you play. It looks and plays pretty badly too so I'd overlook this one...

The final challenge is complete.

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I played it while saving my progress with the emulator. It took a while to work it all out, but once I knew what I was doing I flew through it.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: After beating numerous levels on the comet surface (which all look the same apart from the colour scheme), the game finally ends. A message appears which reads 'CONGRATULATIONS. YOU HAVE DESTROYED THE GERMBAG MENACE'.

  • Neil: Tragic ending to this one. I knew it was coming. 1/10.
  • Vinny: I kind of get where Neil is coming from with regards to his comments about how bad the game is. I can't help think that somewhere in there is a great game idea, but was lost somehow in the implementation stage. If you only read the introduction to the game, it actually sounds like an exciting game and something worth playing. Pity.

As for the ending... nothing to see really. A congratulations message and that's your lot :( 1/10 from me too.

FINAL SAY: If you had any 'comet' sense you'd leave this one alone.

G.E. RATING: 1 / 10
