• Completed & Reviewed by Vinny Mainolfi

Even before knowing that this was a racing game, I had in mind that it was actually a platform game featuring a character called Chevy Chase - possibly depicting the American comedy actor and comedian of the same name! But no. Instead, I was disappointed to find out that this was in fact a poor-man's Outrun. Now you're probably thinking: "how on earth could a driving game be any worst than Outrun on the Commodore 64?" Well, trust me; it's possible...

Chevy Chase by Hi-Tec is a seriously inferior copy of Outrun with cruder graphics and totally numb-boringly nonexistent game play! From the colours right through to the cacky artwork, this game truly is dire... really dire! So there's not much hope for the ending...

Level 4 is complete!

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I used a trained version that gave me infinite time.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you have completed Level 4 (amazing if you actually survived that far!) the ending screen appears with a picture of a Chevy and the words: "WELL DONE. YOU-VE COMPLETED LEVEL 4." At which point the game goes back to the title screen.

COMMENTS:

  • Vinny: The ending picture looks like it's made up of sprites! And where is the ending tune?! AND - it's says you've completed level 4, but nothing about reaching the end of the game! Rubbish. 2/10.
  • Andrew Fisher: I've heard of it but never played it. Very boring ending, this one reached the end of the road and ran out of gas...
  • Gaz Spence: Best part about this is game is its name. The graphics have promise but the cars are too big for the road - I know the American muscle cars are big brutes but the roads in America are big too. I'm not sure the ending even qualifies as one because it's exactly the same as the screen between the earlier stages. Really poor.
  • Brendan Phoenix: Would have been better as a National Lampoon's movie tie-in - driving on the road with your dead gran on the roof!

FINAL SAY: I'm still waiting for a platform version!

G.E. RATING: 2 / 10
