Here's another one of those games that I had never heard of or played until I went searching for more game endings...

Cheap Skate from Silverbird is actually a well presented and clean game, but is let down by its little quirks - one of them being the limited screen space. It does appear a little 'cheap' (no pun intended) in places, but with its sonix by the great David Darling and it's graphics by Pixel Perfect, its load is lightened a little - budget game or no budget game. I really don't think there's any hope for a cool ending though...

Approaching the finish line...

...and there it is.

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I used a version that allowed me to skate through the game without getting hurt :)

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you have reached the end of stage 4 (you have to play through three times!), you get the ending message, which reads: "VERY IMPRESSIVE INDEED, YOU HAVE SUCCEEDED. IF YOU ARE EVER IN KINGS LYNN AND HAVE SOME MONEY RING DARYL ON 761533 FOR A DRINK."

COMMENTS:

  • Vinny: Yep - EXACTLY what I expected: a quick, simple and CHEAP game ending. Not even a game ending tune from David Whittaker :( I do like the fact that the coder put his phone number in the ending. I wonder if anyone did ever call. Actually - I may just call it now and ask for Daryl! 0.5/10 from me.
  • Andrew Fisher: It's a fun little budget game and the art style is pretty good. The ending is a pothole on the smooth pavement of success. But hardly surprising. Wheel in the next budget title and it will probably have a yet screen too...
  • Brendan Phoenix: If only we could turn back time and ring that number! Was it genuine?

Ok little personal touch to the ending. Ok by me.
  • Andy Vaisey: Did you get an answer to the call?

Cheap and nasty ending, but I suppose buying the programmer a pint is the least you could do after scrimping on buying the budget game...

FINAL SAY: Cheap Skate indeed!

G.E. RATING: 0.5 / 10
