Captain Blood. How on earth do you play this game? It's a question I have asked myself many times over the years but never found the answer. I've attempted to play it many times, but found myself just clicking buttons at random and getting lost in the bizarre universe in which the game is set. Finally, I've put the time in to understand and work out the plot and objectives of this truly baffling game...

You take control of Captain Blood who sits at the controls of a large spaceship. The game is played from the cockpit of the craft, which is capable of visiting thousands of planets in a vast universe. The aim is to find and destroy five duplicates of yourself and find Torka (the babe of the galaxy) and hopefully live happily ever after. You control the action by clicking icons that allow you to converse with aliens and carry out instructions such as blowing up planets and teleporting aliens onto the ship. The confusion lies in the dialogue between you and the aliens. It's mainly a case of working out what information you need and how to extract it from the aliens. You will get used to the syntax eventually once you are familiar with the planet and character names. Some send you on missions and then give you clues and planet locations in return for your help. Eventually you will track down the duplicates and you need to trick them into boarding your ship so that you can exterminate them.

The graphics are cool with tons of alien life forms and thousands of places to visit. The sound is okay and it plays really well although the pace isn't that fast. This game is a work of art and is quite rewarding if you can get into it. That said, it does require patience and hard work on your part to get the best out of it.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I followed some tips online and put several hours of hard work into it.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Before the final duplicate is killed, he tells you the location of the planet Corpo (which is where you find Torka). After killing him, you can go and collect the babe and beam her onto your ship and complete the game. The ending shows Torka stretched out in the cockpit with not many clothes on. The icon whizzes around the screen and the icons flicker at the bottom. It seems Captain Blood is very happy to find his babe.


  • Neil: I'd read about this ending so I knew what was coming. It's original and quite cool, but it's also quite boring and pretty static. It's a let down. 3/10.
  • Vinny: I've never attempted to play this one, and judging by the ending I'm not going to bother. 2/10.
  • Gaz Spence: The game is very French in its style and execution, and it seems to offer some decent gameplay behind all the complexity. I hoped for a little more with the ending but c'est la vie.
  • Brendan Phoenix: Very french, we have some boobies! Never thought I would be disappointed in seeing boobies in a game ending!
  • Andy Vaisey: Meh.
  • Andrew Fisher: I did enjoy playing this, even if the downwards conversion from 16-bit had its problems (most notably the awful title music). I had one good run where I found three of the five clones then got lost.

    I did not know what the ending was like before seeing this, a fairly interesting idea if a little basic in execution.

FINAL SAY: This quirky game needed an outrageous ending.
