As martial-art games go, Budokan is quite special. It looks good; it sounds great; and it plays like perfection. Pablo Toledo really created a clever game that took some thinking to beat. It isn't your typical PLF* beat-em-up. So with such a high-scoring game (ZZAP64 gave it 92%), is it inevitable that the ending is going to be fantastic? Nope...


The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Brendan cheated all the way through 12 opponents! Quality :-)

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you defeat the final opponent, our hero is transported to the top of a mountain, looking out over the ocean sunset. The ending is accompanied by an atmospheric ending tune.

COMMENTS:

  • Vinny: It's a nice ending. Pleasant picture and atmospheric music. It's also good to see some text in there too :)
     
  • Brendan: I had NEVER played the game on the C64 - I did have it on the Amiga and thought it was a very impressive title. So I decided to have a go at the C64 version and with the help of those great level skip cheats I skipped my way to the very end.

    The ending is exactly the same as the Amiga version apart from the fact that the silhouette is not animated (in the Amiga he pulls a few kicks and punches). Compared to some other martial arts games we know, those that don't have endings and those that do, I think this is one of the best we have seen in this genre (thinking Bangkok Knights & Fist 2).

    The static pic serves it's purpose, the 2 sentences about winning without fighting is a bit stupid considering you have bashed several opponents over the head with different weapons to get this far! The music is nice and atmospheric.

    A good solid ending, which only loses some marks for me due to lack of animation and a full closing epilogue.

FINAL SAY: It's okay I suppose.
