WOW! How cool is this game! I had no idea it existed
until I was going through the list of
Offline endings to decide which one to add next. For
some strange reason, I decided to add this ending, but I
wasn't too impressed with it. Then, I email Frank
Gasking to see what he thought of the game, and here's
what he said: "Ah Black Magic is a cool little game.
I read that it was quite good and had a quick game. It's
not brilliant, but certainly good for its age and worth
checking out!" Spooky, because Brendan said the same
thing (see comments below), which then gave me the urge
to check it out.
It is a good game, but
unfortunately, it's a cack ending...

Zzzzzzzzz...

A movie-credits style
scroller.

The End.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
I actually think that Bren played through this without
any cheats!
SO WHAT HAPPENS?:
The game ends with the words: "CONGRATULATIONS," and
then a long movie-credits style scroller, which gives
you a detailed epilogue of the story's ending.
COMMENTS:
- Brendan: This
was one of the most enjoyable games I have completed for
the site. Used a map I found in Zzap and as soon as I
learnt what you had to do, I was hooked. I had never
played this before and I recommend anyone that likes a
good arcade adventure to test it out - I remember it
being bloody hard though - especially near the end and I
was running out of items.
The ending sets the scene with a good epilogue, better
than just a couple of words, but why the hell they
couldn't have fitted in an end piccy or some music I
don't know. Would have bumped up the score waaaay
higher. Pity that a great game ends on a disappointing
note. 3/10.
- Vinny:
It's a cool game, but the ending really sucks :(
There's no music, no colour, no animation (apart
from the scrolling) and it just lacks soooo much.
The only saving grace is that it has an epilogue.
I'm going to score it 2/10.
- Kungfufurby:
Not bad with using the scrolling text, but I've
seen better endings use that... with a picture in
the background!
- Frank Gasking:
I think I first read about the game in Zzap,
when Julian Rignall had a good thing to say about
it. So I loaded it up, and it wasn't too bad a game.
Not quite as good as I hoped, but a lot better than
some of the crap they reviewed in the same issue.
Ending isn't too bad - again probably due to memory
restrictions that it isn't more flashy, its
certainly better than "Game Over
- Andy Vaisey:
Yes, a lovely ROM charset used in that text.
Sheesh...
- Andrew Fisher:
Black Magic's ending is very ordinary, dull text
in the Commodore ROM font.
- Gaz Spence:
know where the 'King's highest druid' can
stick his staff after this ending.
FINAL SAY: Booooooo - rubbish!
G.E.
