Better Dead than Alien is a quirky little
shoot-em-up that I had played on the Amiga but not the
C64. It's a simple game in the style of Galaxians. There
are extra weapons to collect and a large alien to beat
after every two waves. There's around 25 sets of levels
to conquer - each with a password. It's an average game
- which gets very difficult.
The graphics are pretty
bland and there are no backgrounds or variation in the
setting. It's all based on a single screen starfield.
The C64 has many better blasters out there, so I don't
see why you'd want to play this one.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
I used an infinite lives cheat.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?:
Not a great deal. As the levels get insanely difficult,
you aren't expected to reach the end without cheating.
If you do, there's a page of text explaining that there
isn't a game ending, and the programmer apologises for
the lack of an ending! Never mind - the alien's are dead
and the universe is safe again. Hurrah!
