Every now and then a new basic style game appears on the Commodore 64 that really takes me back to those early days of C64 gaming. Those innocent times of simple concepts and clean styles. Well thanks to the RGCD C64 16KB Cartridge Game Development Competition (that's a mouthful!), the cute Quasimodo game, Bell Ringer 3, made its debut to the unsuspecting Commodore 64 community, and reminded us that simple games can still be fun!

Okay - so Bell Ringer 3 came 10th out of 15 games... but I still love playing it! With it's simple platform style, clean  graphics, and fitting Sean Connolly tunes, Bell Ringer 3 was definitely one of my faves. And not just that... Geir also had the time to fit in a game ending!

"You know I'm going to say it..."

Der End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I used a trained version by Laxity that allowed me to skip all the levels, but I still played through the last level, 10. (I recently figured out that if I'd pressed 'Q', it would have taken me straight to the game ending!. D'oh!)

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you have successfully opened the final exit, your Bonus Bells are added up and then the end ending screen appears with our hero running, bells all around him flashing, and the words "CONGRATULATIONS. ALL LEVELS COMPLETED".

  • Vinny: I was delighted to see that it actually had an ending - especially for a 16KB game! It's a cheeky little ending, but I'm going to give it 4/10 :)
  • Andrew Fisher: I enjoyed this one, and the previous Bellringer games. I especially liked the way the enemies pursue you and the tricky bell ringing puzzle at the end of the level.

And it is a real challenge to find room for an ending in just 16K of TOTAL memory, so good to see it!
  • Gaz Spence: Loved this when it was released last year so I won't make any snide comments about the ending.

FINAL SAY: Der bells! Der bells!

G.E. RATING: 4 / 10
