Here's a strange old arcade game that no matter how hard I look at it, I always think 'early Darling Brothers creation', but with a bit more umpf. You'd also be right in thinking that Battle Through Time is actually the big brother of many variations on a similar theme such as Trooper Truck (Rabbit Software), Jeep Command (Bug-Byte), Silkwork (Sales Curve), and Moon Buggy (Anirog) - all very similar looking games and playing almost identical to Battle Through Time. Ironically, Battle Through Time hasn't stood the test of time and looks very much outdated compared to many of the games produced today on the Commodore 64. Still - it has a place in many C64 enthusiasts' hearts and so let's look upon this as more of a celebration of the game and a reminder of days gone by...

Kill that muvver of a dino!

Mr. Dino has snuffed it!

Teleported to another time...

WHOOOOSH!

Journey's End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Brendan said: "No cheats this time - the game has a handy resume from last level facility - so with that and plenty of saves I battled my way through the game."

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: The end of level baddie, a dinosaur, seems to explode and then our hero's vehicle is transported to another time/level. The end of message reads: "CONGRATULATIONS... YOU HAVE REACHED THE END OF YOUR JOURNEY THROUGH TIME. NOW ENTERING LEVEL 2."

COMMENTS:

  • Brendan: Funnily enough the game ends in Prehistoric times - so the hardest level is some cavemen throwing spears and boomerangs at you - whilst the futuristic fighting machines of WW3 are a doddle! Strange! 2/10.

  • Vinny: Let's be honest here: this was 1984 and judging by the kind of game this is, it was doubtful that it was going to have an amazing ending. Lacking in so many ways, which is why I also score it 2/10 :(

FINAL SAY: More like Battle Through Grime!

G.E. RATING: 2 / 10
