> BASIL THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE by Gremlin Graphics

Completed & Reviewed by Vinny Mainolfi

I am a big detective fan - mainly Columbo and Sherlock Holmes. Unfortunately, this game doesn't really tickle my fancy and so I haven't really bothered too much with it - apart from grabbing the ending ;-) The graphics and music are nice, but the game play isn't that taxing.

Saying that, the game ending IS worth a look ...

Basil is in pursuit of the evil professor ...

... but for some strange reason he isn't getting any closer.

Finally, the professor heads straight for a cloud ...

... and disappears into thin air! The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Do you REALLY need to know this one? Well, I used a cracked version of the game that game me the option to 'view end sequence first?'.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: The final end sequence sees Basil piloting a hot air balloon and chasing the evil professor. Whilst this animation is going on, there is a scroller at the foot of the screen which says, "Basil pursues the evil professor Ratigan over old London Town ... But in vain ... The professor's airship is too fast and he escapes to carry out even more fiendish plans. To be continued ..."

During the whole end sequence there is a nice piece of ending music from Ben Daglish ("Hi Ben").

COMMENTS: It's quite a simple game ending but very cool and effective. I didn't really expect it and so it was a delight to see - Ben's music helped too.

FINAL SAY: It's worth a little look (",)

G.E. RATING: 7 / 10
