The Bard's Tale II - The Destiny Knight by
Electronic Arts is the follow up to the incredible
original Bard's
Tale RPG game that featured on the C64 back in 1985.
Having completed the original game and being completely
obsessed with it as a 12 year old gamer, I had to
complete the sequel too.
The
task this time is bigger and a lot tougher. The rules,
game play and graphics are pretty much the same as the
first game but this time you have the freedom to wander
a large wilderness complete with many smaller towns
rather than the confines of just Skara Brae. The object
of the game is to find and destroy the evil archmage
Lagoth Zanta. To do so you will need to build an
incredibly strong team of fighters and explore almost
every inch of the game to locate the seven pieces of the
destiny wand which is needed to complete the game. Fans
of the original will love this game as it is everything
the original was - and more. It will take you hours of
playing to explore the game and gain enough experience
to build your characters into a formidable force.
The
Bard's Tale series of games are classics that all RPG
fans have to experience. They are atmospheric, absorbing
and exciting to play. You can get lost in them for
weeks, making them probably the best value for money out
of all the games that I ever purchased on the C64...

RPG...

...games are...

...boring. But Neil
likes them :-) Which is just as well!

The End... or is it?!
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
I still own the clue books that I purchased as a kid.
Along with these and some other maps and information
from the internet, I set about beating the game.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?:
Once the wand has been reforged by your archmage, you
need to locate Lagoth Zanta. His location is revealed at
some point in the Destiny Stone level. Once you have
tracked him down you have to battle his very tough army.
After a long fight and a few magic spells he was finally
destroyed. A picture of the king appears as he salutes
your heroic deeds. He goes on to offer his aid in the
future and says that he can be found in the castle
Candarr. A short message of congratulations follows and
indicates that the adventures will continue in the
Bard's Tale part III.
FINAL SAY: Very similar ending to the first
game, which is what you would expect.
