A peculiar game this one...

Arachne is a horizontally scrolling action game where you are shown a map below the small playing area, and your task is to get to the end of the course. You can collect power-ups and bombs, and must avoid hundreds of bizarre creatures that are preventing you from getting to the end and facing the giant spider that lies in wait. It's quite original and quirky with an eerie atmosphere.

It's not a bad little game, but it's not something I'd play over again...

Fookin' el' - look at that MASSIVE spider!!

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:

  • Neil: I used an infinite lives cheat.

  • Vinny: You know me... I cheated! I just freeze the game with my Action Replay Cartridge, went to MONITOR, and typed G B800, which jumps you to the end location $B800. Simple ;-)

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: At the end of the map lies a huge spider which you must blast to pieces. Once you've kicked the arachnid's ass, the game is beaten. The word 'GREAT!' appears in large writing, with a multi-coloured, shimmering ripple effect. A message appears at the bottom of the screen telling you that you have killed the spider and escaped before everything blew up and vanished... Yeah.... Happens all the time that.

COMMENTS:

  • Neil: Nice battle with the spider, but the end text isn't very exciting and is a bit silly. 3/10.

  • Vinny: I quite like the visual effects in this game ending. Very nice. Though the whole ending is lacking in the audio department. It could have done with a thumping ending tune :( 3/10 from me too.
  • Andy Vaisey: Well, some effects raise this above truly terrible, but isn't that charset font ripped from Parallax?
  • Andrew Fisher: Not a fan of spiders, an odd little game with an interesting ending.

FINAL SAY: It's ok I suppose. I liked the spider at the end.

G.E. RATING: 3 / 10
