Unfortunately, I over-complicated things for this
ending by asking Brendan if he could complete it again
and leave me a few seconds before the ending started so
that I could generate a .PRG file using my Action Replay
Cartridge. I really can be a thicko sometimes and I owe
an apology to Brendan for messing him around (sorry
Brendan). Brendan did complete the game again for me,
but I still couldn't convert the ending to a .PRG file,
and so his efforts went to waste :( I have now reverted
back to the original .VSF file that Brendan kindly sent,
which will only work on WinVice (sorry CCS64 users).
Anyway ... here, finally,
is the spectacular ending to Apollo 18 ...

Hmmm ... looks like a
Speccy screenshot to me.

#three me when to moe,
when to moe a meadow#

Superb ending speech.
The End.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
Not only did Brendan complete this game once without a
cheat, he completed it again just for me :) Cheers
Brendan.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?:
The ending starts with an image of the space capsule
falling to earth. Suddenly, there is a message from
Mission Control: "Radio contact re-established; carrier
on its way". We are then treated to an image of the
astronauts, which is accompanied by the American
national anthem (yawn). The screen then changes to a
message that reads: 'CONGRATULATIONS APOLLO!!'. The real
cool part is more digitised speech that says:
"Congratulations, Apollo, on a successful mission".
COMMENTS:
- Web Master:
I was quite amazed when I first saw this ending; I
was expecting something inferior, and so it was a
pleasant surprise. The screens look like Speccy
ports, but the speech is seriously cool and add
atmosphere of the ending.
Funnily enough, I had already decided that I was
going to give this an 8/10; and then I saw Brendan's
review, which seemed to confirm my sentiments.
- Brendan:
Found out that your final mission score goes towards
whether you make a successful landing or not - so
had to play from scratch with no cheats. Very tough
game.
Lots of sampled speech throughout the game and it's
nice that this continues in the end sequence. Nice
static picture of your capsule coming down. Sampled
speech over this confirming radio contact made and
help on it's way. Cuts to a scene of the smiling
crew with a short snippet of the USA national
anthem. The words 'Congratulations Apollo' appear
with more sampled speech adding to this that you had
a good mission.
I personally this this is a fitting ending to a
class game. 50/50 about whether it deserves a GM or
not, but would say it's an 8/10 as the bear minimum.
FINAL SAY: It's a good'un.
