> ALLOYRUN by Starlight Software

• Completed & Reviewed by Neil Collins

Alloyrun is a shoot-em-up by Starlight Software ("it was never released as Starlight fell into financial problems" - Vinny). I had never heard of it - but it's not that bad actually. It's a horizontally scrolling game with eight levels. All eight levels are a bit too similar looking for my liking, but the animation and game play are pretty good. The sound is excellent and so are the well animated explosions. The end of level bosses don't change which is a shame, but it's a decent enough blast...

Level 8 is THE final level.

Final level boss.

Nearly there...

Literally...

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I used an infinite lives cheat.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once the final end of level boss at the end of level eight is beaten (or he beats you), the game is complete. Your bonus is calculated before you see the words 'THE END' appear in large gold text, which move around the screen before halting in the centre. The game then restarts.

COMMENTS:

  • Neil: It's an ending. A poor one, but an ending nevertheless. 2/10.

  • Vinny: Hehehe... I keep chuckling to myself every time I mention this game because if you say it in a West Country (Devon, Cornwall UK) accent, it sounds like you're saying "Hello Roy!" Give it a go :)

The game itself is pretty basic, and to me it looks unfinished. All it has is some fancy graphics overlaid with enemy sequences, but no real game play - which is unusual for coders Ash & Dave.

As for the game ending... "Goodbye Roy!" 1.5/10 from me.
  • Gaz Spence: Unreleased and plays like a beta version but still has some nice touches and quality music. The ending is poor, poor, poor.
  • Andrew Fisher: The game looks good but lacks a spark to make it really playable. It is a lame ending though.

  • Andy Vaisey: A half-baked game (what a shame), with an inexcusable ending (shame on you).

FINAL SAY: Nothing special. Not really worth checking out.

G.E. RATING: 2 / 10
