Adidas Championship Football by Ocean is a game that I had high hopes for before playing. I remember seeing the screenshots years ago, and it looked like something that I might enjoy. It is, however, another massive failure...

The presentation of the game is pretty good with neat graphics and slick menu system, but as soon as you kick off, the game goes rapidly downhill. The animation is awful, the control method is unresponsive and it's very hard to get the ball up the correct end of the pitch - never mind score a goal! I played for quite a while and managed to score a few goals in the end, but it was very hard work. The other main problem with the game is that it is full of bugs. Too many to mention in fact, but the main one being the games failure to reload the menu once you have won a game - which is a huge problem.

So this is one to avoid I'm afraid. It had potential, but fails to deliver on too many points to be considered a decent football game...

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I played, saved my game, played some more, the game crashed, played the match again, saved my game, played another match and so on... until I had won the final match.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you have won the final of the tournament, you get a last look at the scores on the league table before an ending screen is shown. A picture is displayed of the team manager smiling and drinking champagne with his feet up on the desk of his office. A poster is shown on the wall with the winning team on it with the word 'CHAMPIONS' written below it. A message is shown on the bottom half of the screen which reads 'WELL DONE! PLAYER 1. WALES. YOU ARE THIS YEARS ADIDAS CHAMPIONS!'. Of course the team name changes depending on which team you play as.

  • Neil: The ending is better than the ending to most football games. It's a nice picture, but there's nothing else to see. 3/10.
  • Vinny: I've never played this game, but it certainly sounds like a tedious affair! Nice enough ending though, and pleasant ending tune... 4/10 from me.
  • Gaz Spence: I like the pic of the team getting bladdered after the win - in England's case this would have been before (allegedly).
  • Andy Vaisey: Wales champions?!?! Yay!!! 15/10 ending! ;)

    Cymru am byth!
  • Andrew Fisher: Definitely one of the worst football games on the C64, the ending is one of the best things about it. If you didn't get the version with the music tape containing "World In Motion" by New Order...
  • Brendan Phoenix: Is that someone's head under the desk? Faria Alam?

FINAL SAY: It's better than nothing.

G.E. RATING: 3.5 / 10
